Basic Scope and Primary Objectives
The SEO Manager is a role created to support the organisation’s growth strategy through data-driven digital marketing. Reporting to the Head of Digital Marketing – Academic, the SEO Manager will take responsibility for all aspects of search engine optimisation within THE domain, covering technical SEO, keyword research, content optimisation, link profile and competitor intelligence. The SEO Manager will report on SEO performance, identify opportunities to grow organic traffic to the website and make recommendations for vital technical improvements and content optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out monthly site audits (technical, content, link profile) and make clear, concise recommendations for bug fixes and improvements
- Manage the relationship with Botify and run the website crawler identifying areas for maintenance and putting forward recommendations for improvements to be actioned by the wider business
- Manage the relationship with other suppliers e.g. agency or contractors relating to SEO
- Track competitor SEO activities, conduct analysis regularly and report findings to the business
- Produce informative and user-friendly reports based on technical audits, competitor analysis, SEO performance and web analytics
- Present the above reports to cross-department stakeholders, including Sales, Marketing, Editorial, Product and Engineering teams
- Conduct in-depth keyword research and provide recommendations for metadata, PPC and content, working closely with relevant teams to implement them
- Provide guidelines for keyword research, meta data and content; hold internal workshops to share best practice if necessary
- Apply international SEO techniques to the existing website and the development of the new website
- Support the Engineering team with website migrations (redirect strategy, content migration, crawl-budget optimization, etc.)
- Manage in-house SEO technologies such as SEMRush/SEO Moz and site crawlers and provide support to cross-team users when required
- Support the creation and maintenance of user-friendly and search-optimised landing and product pages within our CMS
- Provide strategic direction and implementation of THE’s SEO solutions, with a focus on technical, content, international and mobile tactics
Essential Skills/Qualifications
- An all-rounded SEO expert with a strong technical focus
- An advanced user of SEO tools including Botify, Google Search Console, Keyword Planner, site crawlers, and SEMRush/SEO Moz
- Advanced keyword research skill, able to provide keywords, metadata and content guidelines at scale
- Advanced Google Analytics or a similar web analytics tool (traffic, audience, engagement, behaviour, tracking and conversion funnel)
- Strong stakeholder management and presentation skill
- Good command of HTML & CSS in a CMS environment
- At least one data visualisation tool such as Data Studio or Power BI
- Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint)
Desirable Skills/Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Google Tag Manager
- Working knowledge of Google Optimize
- A programming language useful for data analytics such as Python or SQL
Experience
- At least 3 years of experience in a technical SEO role (essential)
- At least 1 year of experience working with an online business with a large complex enterprise website (essential)
- Extensive experience in conducting SEO audits (essential)
- Experience with a publisher website where content may sit behind a registration/pay wall (desirable)
- Experience in leading a technical SEO project for web migration (desirable)
- International SEO (desirable)
- Google News optimisation (desirable)
